Our Training Course
Our Advanced Rider Courses are available to all ‘Full (A, A2 & A1) Motorcycle Licence Holders’.
The aim of RoSPA Advanced Motorcycle Training is to develop a union between you, your bike and your surroundings. From this you will gain the ability to anticipate hazards, and plan how to deal with them, the ability to ride more smoothly and cover distances more quickly and easily. This ability is known as Roadcraft.
Advanced Rider Training inspires confidence, which in turn allows you to enjoy your riding more than you do already. It will hone your skills to another level.
Courses are available to those new to advanced riding, those coming back to riding after taking a break and also to those who have already undertaken an advanced rider course and want a refresher, you are all welcome.
We look forward to meeting you all!

Week 1
Introduction
This is your introduction to the course.
After a classroom session, one of our Tutors will undertake a motorcycle pre-ride safety check demonstration.
You will then be allocated a Tutor who will take you on a short assessment of your rider ability, this is very informal and nothing to worry about.
Back at the training location there will be a lunch break , which will be followed by some Slow Speed Bike Handling and Breaking Technics, this will be undertaken as a group.

Week 2
The System of Motorcycle Control
This session introduces the important POWDERRS checks, the theory of the riding system (IPSGA) to show position, and observation to aid planning, which is the basis of all advanced riding.

Week 3
Corners and Bends
Using The System of Motorcycle Control is essential for riders at all times but practically when riding around Corners and Bends.
This session further enhances your awareness of the use of position, observation and planning to manage progress and speed out on the more interesting of roads.

Week 4
Town Riding and Filtering
This session focusses on the extra hazards and situations that require quick and decisive planning to ride smoothly and still maintain momentum in a busy town or city.
The System of Motorcycle Control is a very useful tool to have in your armoury. The volume of Hazards when riding in Towns increases exponentially.

Week 5
Motorways and Dual Carriageways
This week you will explore riding on multi-laned roads and the particular hazards associated with them.
Higher speeds together with different rules and lane disciplines all need to considered. At higher speeds conditions can be seriously disrupted by large volumes of traffic and changing weather conditions, these create requirements for higher concentration levels and adjustment to additional Hazards.

Week 6
Final Review
This session provides an opportunity for associates to reflect on their rider skills. Any concerns or additional training they need to be addressed.
Tutors will carry out an assessment of the your riding progress, they will highlight and discuss any areas of concern that you might have.
They will give you guidance to ensure that if you choose to take the RoSPA Advanced Rider Test, that you are prepared and have the ability to obtain a successful outcome.
